There were 244 undergraduates choosing their majors again and turned to a new major in Fudan University in September 2002. It was the first time that so many students changed their majors in the history of Chinese colleges and universities. Until now, some relative discussions consider it as the symbol of the work of changing majors in China. Among the students who changed their majors were enrolled by adjustment because of poor play in the college entrance examination; or followed blindly when filled their ideal majors; or followed the parents'instructions without their own accurate positions. After entered the universities, they found the majors which they were interested and then desired to change. Implementing the policy of changing majors is not the purpose of the university, but serving such a noble idea that enable every student to have the opportunity to choose the appropriate higher education according to their own characteristics; to fully pursue and develop their own potential of personality. In short, the best university should be a fertile soil, so that the seeds can develop freely rather than obtain the same flower.This paper studies some universities'policies of changing majors in recent years, and then it takes Zhejiang Normal University as the example. The basic framework of this paper is as follows:The part of introduction briefly introduces the background, significance, content and ways of this study. It emphasizes to sort out the existing researches of the home and abroad, and then defines the relative concepts.The second part focuses on the analysis of the implementation background of the changing major policy in the university. It investigates a number of comprehensive universities and normal universities'changing major policies, especially from the comparison of the frequency that given to students, the time when can change, the qualification of the application, and the proportion of the students who can change under the universities'quota.The third part analyzes the changing majors situation of Zhejiang Normal University. It selects the data of the students who change their majors from 2007 to 2009 as the study object, analyzes the differences of the numbers and the flowing characteristics of the majors. Then interviews some students and teachers to find the problems that exist in the work. At the same time summarizes the reality purpose that students change the majors. The self-development and ensuring the interest of study; pursuit of the material benefit and focusing on the future employment; change the study environment and solving the study problems. It conducts a questionnaire survey to some of the undergraduates who participate the changing majors in 2009 to analyze the reasons that push students to change the majors, for example, the satisfaction degree of the choosing major, the position of the learning major in the ideal majors, and the educational level of the family members and so on.The fourth part puts forward the proposals that ensure students changing majors rationally. Respectively from the three aspects:starting option, process option and compensation option.The conclusion examines the usefulness and uselessness of the university education from the aspect of changing majors.
