In recent years, with the expand enrollment of regular higher education, and the vigorous development of self-examination, and the new rules on full-time adult education of institution of higher education, Adult education enrollment appears declining . As an major force in adult higher education, how do the comprehensive colleges and universities in China deal with these problems and achieve a smooth transition for education model? It is an issue that China's comprehensive colleges and universities are generally concerned about.First, this paper argues that developing adult non-degree education with the purpose of f continuing education is a strategic choice of the comprehensive colleges and universities in China, and analyzes the status quo of non-degree adult education of comprehensive colleges and universities in China .Second, this paper discusses the non-degree adult education of Tsinghua University and Peking University .Finally ,this paper makes a number of strategies for the development of the comprehensive colleges and universities in China.This paper is divided into five parts:The first part contains the following contents: the aim and significance of the study , and method of the study, and literature review, and some concepts. The second part demonstrates the historical contribution and current challenges and opportunities of the comprehensive colleges and universities in china.The third part analyses the status quo and existing problems on the adult non-degree education of the comprehensive colleges and universities in China.The fourth part summarizes the successful experience about non-degree adult education of Tsinghua University and Beijing University.The final part makes a number of strategies for the development of the comprehensive colleges and universities in China, based on the problems of the third part and the successful experience of the fourth part.
