higher education, which essentially demonstrates the nature of tertiary education systemmarked with Chinese characteristics. In this sense, teachers, who undertake the task ofideological and political education, naturally become an important component of collegeteaching faculty. They perform as the instructors of our Party's line, principles and policies,the propagandists of our Party's innovative theories as well as the guides to the healthy andsound development of college students. College ideological and political education can be aneffective instrument to help arm college students with the theoretical fruits of Chinalization ofMarxism, enhance the political judgment and awareness of all college students, foster highqualitytalent, and promote the construction and implementation of socialist core value system.To achieve this goal, college teachers in charge of ideological and political instruction willinevitably confront various challenges in terms of their intellectual structure and professionalabilities. Consequently, it is of great significance for teachers in this respect to engagethemselves in specialized research pertinent to this field.This paper, consisting of six parts, focuses on and elaborates on the necessity andimportance for college teachers who is in charge of political and ideological education tocarry out specialized research. The first section pictures the research background andsignificance of this research project, and points out that it is an urgent task for these teachersto do specialized research. The second part defines what specialized research refers to andoffers explanations to relevant terms relating to political and ideological education. In the nextpart, highlights the significance of promoting the specialization of college teachers in politicaland ideological education. The fourth part attention is diverted to the existing problems in thefield as well as to the analysis the special reasons resulting in these problems. And the last part presents some practical strategies about how to boost the specialization of collegeteachers in this aspect, and also serves as a methodological guidance to these teachers.
