Notopterygium franchetii H. de Boiss, belongs to the genus Notopterygium(Umbelliferae), is one of perennial herbs of China. The previous studies have found that N. forbesii extract show antibiofouling activity. In order to search the active ingredients from the roots of N. franchetii, this thesis performed the research on the chemical constituents of its methanol extract. Thirty-four compounds were isolated and identified from the extract of N. forbesii with a variety of chromatographic separation techniques including column chromatography, gel chromatography,semi-preparation high performance liquid chromatographycombined with magnetic resonance spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and infrared spectroscopy. The main types of these compounds involve phenylpropanoids(1-9), coumarins(10-14),hydrocarbon(15-16), sesquiterpen(17-18), single stick(19, 22) sugars etc.Phenylpropanoids and coumarinsare the characteristic chemical constituents of this plant. They were identified as ferulic acid methyl ester(1), trans-ferulic acid(2),trans-4-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl ferulic acid(3), methylchlorogenate(4),cryptochlorogenic acid methyl ester(5), cynarin(6), glucosyl methyl ferulate(7),eugenol tetracetyl glucoside(8),3,4’-dihydroxy-propiophenone-3-β-D-glucopyranoside(9),6’-O-trans-feruloylnodakenin(10), Nodakenin(11), nodakenetin(12), esculin(13),(+)-cis-khellactone(14), respectively. Seventeen of the 34 compounds are glycosides.seven of glycosides were isolated from this plant for the first time, which were trans-4-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl ferulic acid(3), glucosyl methyl ferulate(7), eugenol tetracetyl glucoside(8), 3,4’-dihydroxy-propiophenone-3-β-D-glucopyranoside(9),(2R,5S)-bornane-2,5-diol-2-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(19),6-methyl-7-acetyl-1,8-dihydroxy naphthalene-1-O-β-D-glucoside(20),4-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-benzoic acid methyl ester(27).This thesis mainly consists of two chapters:The first chapter introduced the research of the chemical constituents of Notopterygium franchetii. In this part, we described the identification process of compounds, plant sources, materials and equipment used in the experiment, extraction and separation method and bioassay. The second chapter focused on the recent progress of the classification, chemical composition, quality control method, biological characteristics, pharmacologicalaction and clinical applicationof Notopterygium.
