A Study On The Chinese - English Communication Strategy Of The Press Conference Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

The theoretical framework of this thesis is Skopos Theory, which is the coretheory of German Functionalist in the seventies of the20thcentry. This thesis illustratesthe Skopos Theory, including its background, the three rules (Skopos rule, coherencerule and fidelity rule) and their relationship. In recent years, the press conference hasbecome the focus of the public. Meanwhile, Premier Wen’s remarks at pressconferences after the NPC and CCPCC have been regarded as the classic material forinterpretation. By taking the interpretations of Premier Wen’s remarks at the NPC andCPPCC press conferences from2002to2012as the case study and under the guidanceof Skopos Theory and its three rules, this thesis makes an analysis on the interpretationstrategies at the press conferences, such as the literal interpretation, addition, omission,adaption, punctuation and adjusting the order of words, hoping that it will provide sometheoretical reference to the interpreting work at the press conference and give someinspirations to the interpreters.
