Practice Report Of Simulated Interpretation For Premier Li Keqiang At 2015 Press Conference

Being a practice report of consecutive interpreting between Chinese and English,the dissertation took premier Li Keqiang's press conference in 2015 as simulation interpretation material.Through analyzing the interpretation cases conducted by Zhanglu,an outstanding interpreter works for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,during the question and answer session in press conference,the report presents some difficulties that interpreter will encounter during interpreting process and provides interpretation strategies to deal with tough issues.In the report,an introduction of premier's press conference and its characteristics have been given as well as the theoretical basis for the report,which is the Interpretive Theory.Divided into three stages which are comprehension,de-verbalization and reformulation,The Interpretive Theory(TIT)created by France has been applied broadly for better guiding interpretation practices.The report gives high priority to the pre-interpretation preparation and presents in detail about the preparation work from three aspects: background knowledge preparation,familiar with speech features of the speaker and terms preparation.Additionally,in the course of the simulation practice process,four difficult interpreting issues have been summed up: the interpretation of expressions with distinctive Chinese characteristics,the precise interpretation of logical relationship between sentences,the redundant information processing and culture-loaded words translation.Based on a great deal of example analyses and under the guidance of TIT,it is found that the interpreter can adopt four strategies which are: literal translation,free translation,information integration and logical processing to solve difficult problems and faithfully convey the meaning of source language.The Interpretive Theory is contributed to the improvement of interpretation quality and the development of press conference interpreting.
