In this thesis, the Eastern and Western tragedy love theme musical pieces are set asthe research object, using comparative aesthetic approach and applying deep analysisto the similarities and differences in aesthetic characteristics between Chinese andWestern musical pieccs of tragedy love theme from the perspective of Chinesemodern aesthetics ideological history.This thesis is divided into three parts:The ifrst part summarizes the similarities and differences in aesthetic characteristicsbetween the Chinese and Western musical pieces of tragedy love theme, and discussesthe tragedy musical pieces with different aesthetic forms (classical, early-modern andmodem aesthetics forms) shown from different cultural background, nationalcharacter, aesthetic psychology between Eastern and Western for a morecomprehensive and intuitive understanding.The second part uses the violin concerto "Butterfly Lovers", which is composed byH"e Zhanhao and Chen Gang, and Tchaikovsky’s Fantasy Overture Romeo and Juliet"as representatives of Eastern and Western tragedy love music to study theirsimilarities and differences respectively.The third part uses the success of the violin concerto "Butterlfy Lovers" as a startingpoint, exploring the social impact of cross-cultural research on Chinese tragedy musiccomposition and the reference of contemporary culture construction, as well as theapplication and impacts of Chinese elements in western tragedy love musiccomposing.Finally we get two conclusions: First, we should continue the principle of runningthrough ancient and modern time and combining Eastern and Western in Chinesetragedy music composition. We should not only learn the composing techniques fromWestern, but also integrate and carry forward the Chinese traditional culture in pieces.Second, with increasing trend of globalization in contemporary, the research methodsof comparative aesthetics are playing a more important role in cross-cultural research.
