The Chinese characters teaching of elementary comprehensive Chinese course is a quite important part of Chinese teaching. A scientific and thoughtful instructional design is needed to make the Chinese characters teaching effective in elementary comprehensive Chinese course. The Chinese characters instructional design in elementary comprehensive Chinese course is helpful for increasing the quality of teaching and the students’Chinese basics. So, the author has done some research in the Chinese characters instructional design during the internship. Three teaching cases have been analyzed, and the result of each of them has been figured out. They are supposed to be helpful for the Chinese teaching of students abroad, and there are several my humble opinions for the people who are teaching Chinese as a foreign language.This paper has summed up the theoretical basis of instructional design and the relevance theories of comprehensive Chinese course. And the information of the respondents has been used to determine the basic thinking and idea of the instructional design. The design of the teaching cases has been used to test the four kinds of teaching methods:the Etymology Teaching method, the Radical Teaching method, the Grapheme Analysis method, the Inductive and Contrast method. And the effect of these teaching methods has been analyzed and several practical experiences have been summed up for reference.This paper is based on the previous studies and actual survey. There is theoretical analysis in research conditions, comprehensive Chinese course and instructional design, and so on. To integrate the theory and practice, the cases of the instructional design which are connected with teaching material and teaching objects are made on this basis. There are six parts in the whole paper, and the main points of each part are showed as follows:The first part is introduction. The topic selection background and significance, objects of the study and the research status are stated in this part.The second is the theoretical basis of the Chinese characters teaching of elementary comprehensive Chinese course. It contains the author’s understanding of Chinese characters teaching and instructional design, the principles and teaching methods that this paper has followed, and the basic thinking of teaching, and so on.The third part has showed the Chinese characters teaching of elementary comprehensive Chinese course in specific. The main contents of this part are the background of the students’study, the current situation of Chinese learning, the text books of this study, the teaching methods and skills, and how to determine the content and important points of the Chinese characters teaching.The three teaching cases are described in details in the fouth part, and there are still some supplementary instructions given by the author for each case.The next part mainly analyze the instructional design of this paper. The author summarizes and analyzes in three parts:the performance of the teaching objectives, the success and failure the comprehensive Chinese texts have on Chinese character processing, and the gains and insufficient of teaching.In the sixth part, the important realizations of this instructional design are concluded. And the author also offers some personal views and reference comments on the Chinese characters teaching of elementary comprehensive Chinese course by combining with this investigate and practical teaching. The last part is epilogue of the paper.
