On English - Chinese Translation Strategies In The Translation Of Historical And Cultural Works

This project is composed of two parts. The first part is the translation of the historical narrative text of The Sichuan Frontier and Tibet:Imperial Strategy in the Early Qing from English to Chinese, which was written by Professor Yingcong Dai, a Sinologist of America. It provides an overview of China’s policy in Sichuan and Tibet during the year of1644to1795, Qing Dynasty. The imperial government’s handling of the southwestern frontier illuminates issues of considerable importance in Chinese history and foreign relations:Sichuan’s rise as a key strategic area in relation to the complicated struggle between the Zunghar Mongols and China over Tibet, Sichuan’s neighbor to the west, and consequent developments in governance and taxation of the area. The second part is the Critical Commentary on the first part, using some translation theories and approaches to explore and analyze the specific translation skills during the process of paper writing. It mainly focused on3points: the cultural background, the context, faithfulness and smoothness.
