This research aims to set up the definition of love ability, based on recapping some latest research on the very nature of love and its measurements. Furthermore this research also will have three sub-discussions under this definition of love ability.Sub-discussion 1: To qualitatively research the love ability, this research chose five core-abilities to love. Then, based on EFA and CFA method, this research examined and reviewed these core-abilities, combined them into three main dimensions with seven sub dimensions, and a questionnaire of love ability, based on these extracted dimensions.Sub-discussion 2: Use this questionnaire to test 220 university students, analyze their love ability status, and measure their difference of resilience level, based on their variables of age, gender and family status.Sub-discussion 3: Based on the three core dimensions of love, combined with the effective group-consulting method, this research had mental intervention on those university students with low love ability. The effectiveness of the intervention is measured by the difference of before/after status from the experimental group and the control group.Here is the conclusion of this research: 1. The questionnaire of love ability has a good validity and reliability. It is an effective way to test the love ability of university students. The questionnaire removed unrelated dimensions via variance analysis, and summarized the ability of love, based on EFA, under the three dimensions of empathy, altruism, and trust. Empathy has three sub-dimensions: perspective taking, difficulty empathy, and open identification; while altruism has two: interpersonal forgiveness and selfless devotion; and trust has two: dependency, and trustiness. All internal consistency lines are over 0.7 among three main dimension of the questionnaire, and significant on 0.01 level. 2. The love ability of university students is basically grown. Most of the ability is overall good. The testing result shows a normally distributed curve divided by its mean. The amounts of extra-low results are 2% of the overall population. Generally speaking, there are no significant differences among university students’ love ability, but male are good at trust ability and female good at empathy. 3. The original family status will affect offspring’s’ love ability. People from original family which has “harmony and warm” status tend to have more love ability; who live with mother from a divorced family has higher trust ability. 4. The mental intervention designed by this research successfully increased the individual’s love ability effectively. The result shows significant on all three dimensions of empathy, altruism and trust.This research also has weakness: 1. Among the research method of individual difference, the biggest lack is the low amount of subjects, resulting the amount of “special family”(e.g. divorced) is too low during the discussion and analyze of the difference among original family status. 2. During the intervention, because of the difficulty to have enough subjects, this research couldn’t have homogeneity among control group and experimental group, and couldn’t set up a intervention group to divide the affect of Hawthorne effect...
