Learning motivation not only is one of the most dynamic role of various factors in learning Chinese as a second language,but also is a sort of complex psychological phenomenon which will affect the process and the results of learning Chinese. So,the study of Chinese learning motivation on overseas students will undoubtedly contribute to the implementation of the Chinese language teaching effectively.This paper, taking domestic and foreign related research on learning motivation for reference,have an detailed investigation and analysis of the BSU’s (Bulacan State University of the Philippines)students motivation in survey and interview. The survey shows:the students of Confucius Institute at BSU have great interest in Chinese and girls are a little more interested in learning Chinese;on Chinese study, the proportion of intrinsic motivation is 41.67%, much higher than the 28.33% extrinsic motivation;Meanwhile,Classroom teaching methods,the existing materials and a variety of cultural events organized by the Confucius Institute also will have a significant impact on the growth and decline of students motivation.The subseqently interview shows most of the students more or less have studied Chinese before entering University;they choose to study Chinese because of their interest,which takes the largest proportion;At the same time,some of them even want to study in Chinese or teching Chinese after their graduation. Based on these flndings,there are some strategiesto stimulate learners’ motivation are put forward.They are:establish a harmonious teacher-student relationship; give positive comments with less negative evaluation and so on.
