Idiom is an important part of Chinese vocabulary, because of its unique culturalconnotation. It posses rich stories and has been cared by foreign students. Because thestructure, syntax and meaning of idiom itself have the characteristics of complexity,the phenomenon of idiom acquisition errors frequently happens to foreign students. Inorder to reduce this kind of phenomenon and promote the spread of the idiom culturein our country, the author carried out the investigation. And the author hopes it canhelp foreign students’idiom acquisition. This paper is divided into six parts:The first part is introduction. It mainly introduced the selected topic basis, thesignificance of this article, specific contents of the title and it also presented thereviews from three directions. At the same time, it introduced the theoretical basis,research methods and the source of corpus in this paper.The second part is the basic connotation of idiom. This article is on the basis ofthe theoretical study of some representative views. And it expounded from fouraspects: the meaning, characteristics, structure and culture connotation of the idiom.This paper also studied the definition of idiom.The third part is the errors types of foreign students’idiom acquisition. Basing onthe results of the survey and the analysis of the specific corpus, the author divided thestudent’s idiom acquisition errors into four types: the errors of idiom’s glyph, theerrors of idiom’s structure, the errors of idiom’s semantic and the errors of idiomspragmatic. Besides, the author analyzed the specific corpus in detail.The fourth part is the causes of errors made by foreign students’ idiomacquisition. This article mainly analyzed the causes from the two aspects: subjectivityand objectivity, finding out five causes of foreign students’ idiom acquisition: thecomplexity of idiom’s characteristics, differences of cultural factors between Chineseand foreign languages, the negative transfer of mother tongue’s knowledge, overgeneralization of the target language’s knowledge, teaching outline, teaching materialsand the influence of idiom dictionaries. The fifth part is the teaching strategies of foreign students’ idiom acquisition.According to the errors arising from the investigation, the writer put forward someteaching strategies, such as the method of Chinese characters, the discrimination ofthe similar Chinese character, the method of comparative analysis, the method ofstructure practicing and so on.The last part is conclusion. It summarized the research content of this articlecomprehensively.
