Among all of the methods of language teaching, task-based language teaching approach is considered as the most effective way to train the students’ language speaking and using skills. This master thesis is based on two typical Task-based Elementary Spoken Chinese textbooks, that is, Experiencing Chinese Oral Course, Real-life Practice Of Elementary Chinese-Dialogues For Beginners. Both of them are used widely, so they are very representative. The goal of this essay is to examine whether they embody the basic principles of task-based language teaching approach (TBLT).First, summarizing the basic principles of TBLT by different researchers, this thesis chooses the six representative basic principles of TBLT, that is, the authenticity, the interactivity, learning by doing, the form-function, the task dependency, the interest. Then, based on these principles, the thesis analyzes the two Task-based Elementary Spoken Chinese textbooks, finds their advantages and disadvantages. During the research, we use many different methods, such as qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. Also, we use a lot of living examples.At last, we find that Experiencing Chinese Oral Course meets the requirements of TBLT on the whole and just has some detailed problems. Otherwise, Real-life Practice Of Elementary Chinese-Dialogues For Beginners is not as good as the former one.It has more problems, for exmple, the lack of task dependency, traditional unit arrangements and not outstanding learning by doing principles. According to the problems, this thesis makes some suggestions on task-based elementary spoken Chinese textbooks written, with the hope to make some contributions to its writing.
