This thesis studies two Chinese nouns of locality, Li (里) and Zhong (中). These two nouns have similar meanings and usages. This thesis firstly describes syntactics and semantic of the two nouns. Secondly, making comparison of them from the aspects of syntactic and semantics description. On the aspect of syntactic, this thesis draw a conclusion that their syntactic are similar by analyzing their common structure X Li (X里) and common preposition structure, yet Li (里) cannot be used after V and VP to express situation or process. On semantics,both Li (里) and Zhong (中) have semantics of concrete space, abstract space, time and situation. But there are also some differences between them. Li(里) has scope and boundary semantics, while Zhong (中) has only scope semantics. Zhong (中) be used after words of group and can also after unlimited range, but Li (里) cannot. Li (里) can be used after the words which express organization and people in organization, but Zhong (中) can be only used after the organization. Li (里) can express relatively accurate time, while Zhong (中) cannot. Li (里) can express equivalent semantics, while Zhong (中) cannot. Zhong (中) have the semantic of process,but Li (里) does notFinally, this thesis analyzes the errors of overseas students, and finds out some specific teaching strategies.The teaching process should be based on different levels of meaning because of their similar meaning and usages. And also we need to emphasize the comparison between language and preposition structures.Using the methods of comparison to compare Li (里) and Zhong (中).
