Adjectives as an important part of modern Chinese language occupy an essential position in teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages. This paper aims at representing the similarities and differences between Armenian and Chinese adjectives’ syntactic functions and their possible influence on the acquisition process,suggesting relevant teaching strategies within the frames of Chinese as a second language.The paper consists of an introduction, four chapters, conclusion and bibliography:The first chapter is the representations of the research on adjectives in both languages.The second chapter is divided into seven subchapters: Comparison of adjectives modified by quantity adverbs, adjectives as attribute, adjectives as adverbial modifier,adjectives as compliment, adjectives as predicative, overlapping forms of adjectives,and comparison sentences with adjectives. Each subchapter compares and analyses a definite syntactic function in Armenian and Chinese languages, aiming to find out similarities and differences within the same syntactic function in these two languages.The third chapter introduces the design and the content of the conducted survey,analyses the results of the survey.The forth chapter summarizes the main acquisition sequences of Armenian intermediate and advanced level learners, categorizes various types of errors, brings about some relevant suggestions on syntactic function teaching within the frames of teaching Chinese as a second language.Bibliography represents the list of books, articles and web sites that have been used and quoted in the paper.
