| In modern Chinese,"overlapping word" is a distinctive grammatical phenomenon and linguistic form with varied formations, rich semantics, and complex grammatical functions. It is one of the grammar points that international students need to acquire, but it’s not easy for them to master. At present, related studies of teaching Chinese as a foreign language reveal that international students have difficulties in overlapping adjectives, and tend to misuse them.Based on the theoretical framework of modern Chinese grammar and teaching Chinese as a foreign language, the research selects 74 intermediate level overlapping adjective errors as its object from the BLCU Corpus Center(BCC).Three research methods are adopted to analyze the overlapping adjective errors of overseas students: corpus research method, error analysis method, and classification method.Through analysis, the research reveals there are four error types of overlapping adjectives: modified by degree adverbs, misuse of overlapping words, misuse of the basic forms and misuse of meaning of the overlapping adjectives. And it also finds four causes of the errors: negative transfer of the mother tongue, incorrect use of the target language rules, error analogy and ineffective use of learning strategies. Thus, the paper puts forward some teaching suggestions for the purpose of improving international students’ learning strategies in the aspects of matching with degree adverbs, overlapping conditions, syntactic functions and grammatical meanings. |
