In recent years, with the development and promotion of Chinese language teaching in the Baltic region, the "Chinese fever" in Latvia continues to heat up. Currently, there are up to 10 Chinese language teaching points founded by China and Latvia together, besides, more and more Latvians start their Chinese learning, what’s more, cultural exchange and cooperation between China and Latvia are gradually increasing. One of the Chinese teaching points, Smiltenes Center Secondary School located in Smiltene region, is the only secondary school of Chinese teaching located outside the municipality in Latvia, which to a certain degree has its own particularity. After searching the literature regarding to the Chinese teaching in Latvia, few investigations about the current status of the Chinese teaching in Latvia has been found. Furthermore, the investigation about the current situation of the Chinese teaching in Latvia that from the perspective of a specific Chinese language teaching point is a vacancy in the field.When served as the Chinese volunteer teacher in Smiltenes Center Secondary School in the school year of 2015-2016, I have employed the questionnaires, interviews, classroom observation and other methods to investigate the current situation of Chinese teaching in this school. From the aspect of Chinese language learners, teachers, parents and so on, centered on the situation of teaching, teachers and textbooks, the survey results were statistically analyzed, in addition, recommendation and reflection about the status quo of Chinese language teaching in Smiltenes Center Secondary School are covered in this thesis, in order to provide the reference for investigating the Chinese teaching in Latvia.
