With the development of embedded technology, a new Embedded System -- Programmable System on Chip SOPC gradually become embedded systems technology research, with its technical superiority of flexible design, programmable, and can be trimmed and expanded.The subject comes from the major special issue of state's 15th 863 Plan "Research on system performance and key technologies of large-scale Access Convergence Router (ACR)". Those line cards and exchange boards of ACR need a embedded system which could be complete communications with the host, and configured & control those boards. After in-depth study of the SOPC design technology, this paper has designed and implementationed a SOPC system for ACR that fully meet the above requirments based on the Embedded Processor of PowerPC405 embedded in the Xilinx Platform FPGA.This paper including:1. Analysis application deficiencies of the existing Embedded System in ACR. After a detailed analysis for the design difficult situations and critical technologies of SOPC, advanced a design of build a SOPC system for ACR which based on the Platform FPGA Virtex4-FX60.2. From the need of SOPC, based on IP Reuse concept, use the hardware and software co-design way,use the programmable logic resources and IP core of FPGA, designd various interface module and the control module for PowerPC405,thus completing the FPGA design of SOPC.3. Aimed at the situation of the difficult to testing the performance of Tri-Mode Ethernet without operating systems, we designed a test program derive from the structure characteristic of TEMAC, and has proved in the actual testing.4. In the side of software design, completed the design of VxWorks's BSP combination the hardware systems, after an indepth analysis and research for embedded RTOS VxWorks. With that, in the view of SOPC has different requirement to Ethernet communication speeds which in different use of environment. Design a program which could make the Tri-Mode Ethernet interface implementing auto-change in the speed of 10/100/1000M under the external environment.5. Completed the design of SOPC from hardware and software, and ability to achieve ACR.
