The Cluster Analysis Of Different Social Development Levels In Jilin Province

Since China`s reform and opening up, this country and each province saw a differentdevelopment speed. Therefore, the development gap among different areas became wider andwider. How to ensure "rich people help poor" and achieve "all rich" is on the top agenda in alllevels of government. However, this issue can`t be resolved until we have a wellunderstanding about current development situation. This paper is devoted to understandingthe development of Jilin province by the means of cluster analysis which is one part ofmultivariate statistics.Due to different natural resources and environments, there is a clear development gapamong different parts within Jilin province. This paper adopts 8 major variables which couldindicate economic development stage and uses AHP method to get 8 weights forcorresponding variables. Then I chose cluster analysis to differentiate development stages indifferent areas. The conclusion is that the west part of Jilin is pretty behind the middle partof Jilin in development. Government should pay more attention to west part. In addition, thismethod of analysis could be easily applied to other provinces and autonomous regions.
