In the China 10th five-year plan, it is clarified that industrialization shall be driven by informationalization and the comprehensive competent of traditional manufacturing industry be elevated relying on information technology. The development of information technology and its growing influence & infiltration on traditional manufacturing industry lead to fundamental changes on its product development organizational modes and processes. With resources development upon information integration widely used and further tapped, efficiency and quality of products have been greatly promoted. The application of CAX and PDM, not only improves the corporate product R & D capability with the help of advanced tools, but also reduces the product development cycle and cost and promotes related efficiency by means of complete information for design analysis, technical process and manufacture produced by CAX tools upon orderly and highly-efficient flow of the integration in the product development system, and by means of real-time transmission of information and whole share of data within product development system. Therefore, implementation of PDM system is the effective way to meet the demand of speediness for product development by market and also the only road to enhance the product innovation & development capacity of the enterprises. This paper, in accordance with the urgent need of product development by Inner Mongolia North Heavy Industries Group Corp. Ltd, introduces the product development management thoughts and management means based upon parallel engineering and product development means including PDM technical integrations: CAD, CAE and CAPP, studies and prepares PDM system, and solves the bottleneck problems faced by company in product development. The general goal of PDM system design is: by establishment and enforcement of PDM system, to introduce the advanced product development concept; by implementation of modern product development management means and adoption of modern product development tools, to integrate product development resources, optimize product development flow and set up modernized product system, as a result, it is intended to uproot the problems bottlenecked product development of enterprises, raise substantially the innovation capability of products development, help company lay a solid foundation in quick response to the market demands. To achieve the above-said goal, it makes an overall and in-depth analysis on needs by DM system in terms of function, property, information, resource and organization, based upon which it starts integrated design of PDM system. Overall design and study of PDM system works out concrete objective, design principle, composition and logic structure, topography structure, environment and interface; puts forward the functional module to be required and property to be satisfied by each software through analysis of system's need over application software. The key technologies to be covered by PDM system includes restructure of product development flow and regroup of product development organization. By means of information integration, function integration to process integration of product development; computer aided parameters design techniques for components and products; insert product coding system, it is to reduce product development cycle and cost and promote product development efficiency. Solutions covered in the key technologies are as follows:1. Application of parallel product development mode Parallel product development mode is an integrated, parallel and systematic approach to design product and its related process. By means of organizing team for multi-science product development, perfecting product development flow and utilizing types of computer aided tools, it is possible to take account of the followed-up factors even at the initial stage of product development in a bid to reduce product development cycle and cost, improve product quality and consequently strengthen the competent of the enterprises. Parallel engineering is an integrated, parallel and systematic approach to design products and its related process. 2. Regroup of product development organization By use of flat organization, management levels are simplified for product development and accordingly a higher operation efficiency shall be achieved for product development process. An IPT group shall be organized to carry out the specific project for new product development, so product development work could be concurred. 3. Regroup of parallel-engineering-based design & development flow After adoption of parallel product development mode, the relevant series product design & development flow shall be replace by parallel product design & development flow. Integration process and multi-science product development team mean that limits are removed between different sections and interrelations of duties are taken into full consideration, so the product development could be carried out in parallel and interactive mode, which is bound to promote the efficiency. The core technology of product parallel development flow enables timely exchange and merging of different professional expertise and experience in connections with product development, as would lower thepossibility of occurrence of serious problems in the follow-up stages of product development, in particular, lower or prevent significant but irretrievable problems regarding to product development from being taken place during manufacturing. Therefore, the root causes are figured out to reduce cycle and cost of product development and raise the quality. 4. Further application of digital tools for product development The implementation of parallel engineering is based on product data management system of different platforms. All these models have to be integrated onto the PDM system including product development process model, product life cycle information model and integrated product development team organization model, so that one-to-one correspondence comes into being between human-duty-information-resource. This PDM-based development environment is not aimed at automation, but to provide IPT with an operable platform making full use of CAX and other product development tools. PDM system is built just for establishment of enabling environment for integrated product development team. After implementation of this system, achievements had been made as follows: (1) In line with electronic data produced by integration of different computer aided systems, it is to promote quality of data and keep them consistent, completed and correct. At the same time, on the basis of strengthening control of safety and power, it is to improve utilization ratio of data. (2) It can reduce a great amount of repeated labor and routine work, promote work efficiency, enables technical personnel of company to spend more efforts and time on creative activity, so as to heighten the company's R & D level.(3) The application of CAD/CAE/CAPP, on one hand, enables design of the engineer and technical personnel to be standardized; on the other hand, by the help of 3D modeling, simulating assembly, interference inspection and finite element, entails the design staff to give full play of their creativity, speed up development of new products and elevate innovation capability of products. (4) Not only enterprises'R & D level is got heightened, but also by combination of modern management means like system engineering and parallel engineering with computer technology, the management efficiency of enterprises has been promoted in a large margin. Accordingly, operation flow has been improved and innovated, coordination between sections has been enhanced and total management level and effect have been perfected. In general, establishment and implementation of this system will set up a mechanism of data sharing and quick transmission for enterprises'product development system, exert an direct effect on the realization of product development modes and cycle & cost cutting, and eventually lay an important foundation for enterprises meeting market's demands on time.
