It has been agreed in historical studies that information technology affectstransportation in two directions: substitution and complementarity. This dissertationapplies qualitative analysis combined with quantitative analysis: first it theoreticallyanalyses the impact of information technology on transportation, and then it analysesin demonstration of the 20-year data of relative indices of present China. After thefactor analysis of the selected information technology indices, two regression modelsare built to discover the correlativity between information technology and passengertransport volume and the correlativity between information technology and cargotransport volume. The results of the two models illuminate that in the presentdevelopment phase of China, the correlativity between information technology andtransportation is positive, which further illustrates that in the impact of informationtechnology on transportation the complementarity exceeds the substitution. Accordingto this conclusion, suggestions are made in the following part on how to accelerate thedevelopment of transportation in present China.
