With the arrival of Economical globalization and the Global Urban Time , "MetropolitanArea"(MA) as a kind of organization of city should be paid more attention to.This paperdefinite the Spatial area of the the 1-day transportation circle and Shenyang MetropolitanRegion (SMR) in GIS method. Starting from the discussions and understandings on thedefinition of Metropolitan Region, this paper explains the definition of a metropolitan regionwithin this article by integrating the ideas from Japanese scholars who first apply the term of"metropolitan region". Based on this, this paper defines the spatial scope of ShenyangMetropolitan Region through the adoption of GIS technology and qualitative analysis. It is putforward that Shenyang Metropolitan Region should adopt a pattern of integrativedevelopment, and the necessity and feasibility of such an integrative development is alsoanalyzed. In the meanwhile, this paper points out the barriers as well as countermeasures inimplementing integrative development within Shenyang Metropolitan Region.The dissertation can be divided into three parts: summarization, main body andbibliography, thereinto,the chapter one is prologue.It begins with the summary of thebackground of the research ,and also definate the Middle Area of Liaoning province.At last ,itpoints out the purpose and meaning of the research.Chapter Two summarizes current research direction and research value of this text bycombing to domestic and international relevant research.Especially,it differentiate andanalysediscriminate the term "Metropolitan Region"and the term "Metropolitan Area"(MA).Chapter Three launches on the introduction of the methods used in Japan andAmerica,and also with the introduction of the method prevailing in China.In definingShenyang Metropolitan Region, this paper attempts to adopt this train of thought: first, thispaper determines a time duration based on the transportation time from the center ofShenyang, and areas that can be reached within this time duration are considered within theSMR initially;then, this paper adjusts the initial SMR by taking administrative area, culturalidentity, industrial structure and natural conditions into consideration and as such defines thefinal spatial scope of SMR.Chapter four sums up the compartmentalize of the MA developing age.With the researchon the character of SMA,we can get the conclusion that the SMA is at the aggrandizementmoment. Necessity and Feasibility of Integrative Development of SMR are brought forward.Integrative Development of SMR is necessary to regional economical competition and theurbanization of Liaoning Province. At last ,the paper point out the Countermeasures of theIntegrative Development of SMR . Countermeasures include: ⑴ to further enhance theconstruction of transportation lines;⑵ to promote the functions of Shenyang and improvethe construction of modern service industry;⑶ to strengthen the co-construction of regionalenvironment and create good city image;⑷ to establish the coordinating mechanism of"integrating three into one".
