With the development of science and technology, people’s requirements forclothing are increasing. As a result, a wide range of new textile materials areconstantly utilized in garment industries. For a long time, people have been pursuingthe comfort and aesthetic of clothing. In order to improve the quality of clothing, testmethods and evaluation standards for the clothing textile raw materials weredeveloped accordingly, of which the purpose is to guide and supervise the productionof high quality textile materials, improving the tactile comfort and quality of life.Since the comfort of clothing is decided directly by the tactile properties oftextile materials, the research of objective evaluation and test methods of tactileproperties of textile materials is particularly important. Based on the summary of alarge number of the domestic and international research results, this paper studied theobjective test methods of tactile properties of textile materials, and developed a set oftest system of instrument for the objective testing and evaluation. Through thesimulation of dynamic contact process by mechanical device between the textiles andhuman skin and the acquirement of the dynamic information in the process, theobjective evaluation system for the touch properties of textile materials was proposed.After the objective testing of typical textile samples, calculating and analyzing testresults to optimize the objective evaluation system, a comprehensive objectiveevaluation system with differentiation degrees for typical textile sample wasestablished, which can provide an objective basis for the establishment ofcomprehensive evaluation methods with objectivity and subjectivity and thestandardizing method research of textile.Based on the theoretical basis of objective testing of touch properties of textilematerials, objective testing methods were proposed for testing touch properties oftextile materials, which include four dimensions as follows: compression properties,surface friction properties, bending and twisting properties and heat transferproperties. Appropriate test principles and corresponding test methods were utilized to achieve the objective touch properties testing requirements of textile materials.The test device system mainly includes mechanical devices, test mechanism,sensors, data acquisition systems and control and analysis system of software. Thispaper specifically describes the overall structure of the mechanical devices, theprinciples and devices of each part of the test mechanism, and the design of sensorsand data acquisition system. By testing the typical textile samples in the objectiveexperiments by the test device system, simulating the dynamic contact processbetween textiles and human skin, data of dynamic changing information acquired bythe sensors in the dynamic contact process can be collected and we can get objectiveexperimental test data. In this article,12kinds of typical textile samples are tested bythe test device system, and thus12objective experimental results are obtained.A series of objective evaluation indices system for touch properties of textilematerials was defined in this paper, which includes four sections of properties likecompression, friction, bending and twisting, heat conducting. According to objectivetest results of typical textile materials and the optimization of the evaluation system,an objective evaluation indices system which can distinguishes typical textilematerials was formed. Associating each index of this evaluation system with thecommonality of subjective feelings, we can predict the subjective feelings of textilematerials by objective test results, which provide an objective basis for thecomprehensive evaluation methods of the textile material, and a theoretical andexperimental basis for the subsequent standardization research of tactile properties oftextiles as well.
