A Study On The Influence Of Supply Chain Power On Relationship Quality And Performance

It could be found from supply chain practice that the abuse of power in supply chain will inhibit the cooperation and performance, even lose the lasting competitive advantage generated. Thus, it is important for companies to understand how the power influence the relationship quality and supply chain performance and how to manage the power to promote cooperation and performance.Based on the investigation of manufacturing firms around Yangtze River Delta, we explored the relationship among power, relationship quality and supply chain performance, and the moderating effect of clockspeed on the impact of performance. We are to provide a framework for managers to understand how power influence relationship quality and performance, and consequently the way of exploiting the power for performance improvement and lasting competitive advantage; theoretically, it also made contribution on the research of power, relationship quality and performance.The results indicated that,1) power that deliberately managed could improve the relationship quality between companies, such as reference power, expert power and legitimate power; 2) sound relationship quality have positive impact on supply chain performance, especially trust; 3) industries with low clockspeed, relationship quality shows a much more significant positive impact on performance, but no significance in high clockspeed industry.
