The Relationship Between Supplier’s Quality Management Practices And Supply Chain Quality Performance

With the constant development of supply chain management theory and practice, supply chain quality management draws wide attention. Traditional competition between different companies has transformed to the competition between supply chains. As a strategic mode which can maximize the resource utilization, reduce cost and improve the core competence, it is more and more popular. Many scholars explored the relationship between supply chain quality management (SCQM) and enterprise performance. Regarding quality management practices (QMP), most of the scholars’ researches focus on the relationship between QMP within the enterprise and the enterprise performance, few research pay attention to the relationship between one member’s quality management practices of the supply chain and supply chain quality performance (SCQP). Even though China is a big manufacturing country, the quality management still in its infancy, especially supply chain quality management. It is one of the reasons that quality and safety incident occurred frequently in our country. Under such a background, this paper provided certain theoretical support for Chinese quality management of manufacturing industry.Considering the situation above, this paper empirically explored the relationship between supplier’s quality management practices (SQMP) with supply chain quality performance which based on supply chain quality incentive (SCQI) under the background of Chinese manufacturing industry. During the research process, this paper firstly made a wide literature review, divided QMP into core QM practices and infrastructure QM practices. At the same time, this paper analyzed the SCQI and SCQP. On this basis, this paper constructed a mode in which the SQMP was independent variable; SCQI was moderating variable and SCQP was dependent variable. And then, according to the data provided by144suppliers in manufacturing industry, do some statistical analysis and test hypotheses. Finally, this paper came to following conclusions:Firstly, SQMP has a significant positive effect on SCQP. Dividing SQMP into core QM practices and infrastructure QM practices, this paper found that both of the two kinds of QM practices have significant positive effect on SCQP.Secondly, SCQI plans a positive moderating function on the relationship between core QM practices、infrastructure QM and SCQP.. In the practice of SCQM, if other members in the supply chain can increase efforts to quality incentive to suppliers, there will be greater leadership support、advanced equipment, employees will positively participant in the quality management practice;standard procedure in the organization of supplier. Meanwhile, the supplier will strictly control the defect rate、reject rate and other quality data. All of these will greatly promote the improvement of SCQP.Thirdly, as one of the control variable, ISO quality certification system have significant effect on SCQP; as one of the quality incentive methods, it also plays an moderating role. With the development of economic globalization, the enterprise management mode in our country has changed. As the international standard, ISO quality certification system is playing an increasing important role in SCM. Chinese manufacturing industry is constant reinforcing the quality supervision and constraint. There is no doubt that this trend has a meaning of milestone in Chinese QM.This paper innovative introduced SCQI into the mode. explored the relationship between quality practices and performance within the scope of supply chain and deeply explored SCQM. IT provided theoretical and practical guidance to the improvement of Chinese SCQP.
