With the continuous deepening of reform and opening up and rapid socio-economic development, great changes have taken place in Chinese rural areas. Especially because of the implementation of industry nurturing agriculture and the accelerating urbanization process in rural areas, in recent years farmers have greatly improved their living environment. A new socialist countryside is being made up in our country.This paper studies the residence of a peasant family of intellectuals in Shui Nanwan village of Daji town, in Daye of Hubei Province. The family have undergone six great changes in housing during the past sixty years, from the traditional courtyard and patio of Anhui building style to the the "new premises" in the new socialist countryside now. This paper aims to clearly explore the residential changes of the family in the past sixty years since new China was founded.This thesis is divided into two parts:Ⅰ:the current residential situation of Cao Anran's familyFirstly, this section will give a brief introduction to the geography, history and current situation of Shui Nan Wan village. Then through a large number of drawings and photographs and considering the daily life of the family members, this section will give a detailed description of the current housing of Cao Anran's family from the dimensional function, building structure, the use of materials, furniture and many other aspects.Ⅱ:the housing situation of Cao Anran's family at different timesThis section will describe the housing situation of Cao Anran's natural family in different historical periods. The missing housings will be reconstructed according to the memories of the family members. Different historical periods, different residential environment, different housing members are the targets to explore in this section. Also, there will be a horizontal comparison between the housings of Cao Anran's family and other housings in the same period. And this section will try to analyse the housing changes of Cao Anran's family from the change of the structure of rural households, urban construction as well as rural construction and other aspects.
