ABSTRACT:This paper focused on researching the basic operating situations of high speed railway in Japan,France and Taiwan. There are two important parts in to introduce these three representative high-speed railway lines. Firstly detailed describe these three high-speed railway lines include the important cities along these lines, the cities'population density and so on. Through the above detailed description of the Tokaido Shinkansen in Japan, the French TGV Southeast line and the China Taiwan High Speed Rail line there is a general conclusion:the traffic flow closely related with the population along the high-speed railway and the distance of the high speed railway.Based on the above viewpoint, I use the operating data of these three high-speed railways in 2008 to build a general Gravity Model. And got conclusion as followed:the traffic flow is positively related with the population density of the cities along the high-speed railway and negative related with the distance of the high-speed railway. If the population density is too low, and there will not be enough people to choose high-speed railway to travel. So there will not be enough traffic flow to support the profit. And the traffic flow will also become fewer with the distance'shorter. In order to test the correctness of the model, substitute the above data into the general gravity model. Then will get the theoretical traffic flow. Compare the theoretical traffic flow with the practical traffic flow. If these two results are very close, the general gravity mode is right. Because the data is not enough the general gravity mode must have some shortages. So in this paper, the general gravity mode as a general tool just explain the relationship between traffic flows with the population and distance.
