Research On The Development Of Ethnic-Unique Countryside Tourism In Guizhou Province

The "Proposal on accelerating the development of tourism " (State Issue No.41[2009]) issued on December 1,2009 by the State Council makes it clear that in the next 5 to 10 years, the government will greatly boost the development of countryside tourism and increase the peasants'incomes. Developing countryside tourism has a lot of benefits. For example, it can help to optimize the agricultural structure of the rural areas, create more employment opportunies for the peasants, and increase their incomes. Also, it helps to improve the peasants'quality, promote the conservation of the enviroment and traditional ethnic culture and heritage, and realize the goal of democratic supervision and building of a new socialist countryside. Guizhou is underdeveloped economically and problems concerning agricuture, peasants and rural areas stand prominent. However, as a province with 49 ethnic minority groups, Guizhou is rich in minority heritage and cultural resources and boasts great potential in developing its countryside tourism, with its unique ethnic villages, customs, dances, arts and crafts, and festivals.Though the rapid development of countryside tourism in recent years in Guizhou province has greatly boosted the local economy of many tourist destinations, however, many realistic problems have croppped up in the process, among which the low-level exploitaton of resources, lack of variety in tourist products, lack of cultural connotation, inert in development momentum, damage of ethnic cultural resources, and assimilation and alienation in ethinc culture are just but a few. All those directly reduce the attractiveness of developing countryside tourism in the ethnic minority areas and hamper their sustainable development. Starting from this, this thesis first ventures to analyze the advantages in Guizhou ethnic cultural resources using methodologies of data collecting and analyzing, induction, and reasoning, then moves on to tap into the existing problems in the develoment of countryside tourism, and finally puts forward some coping thoughts and strategies. The thesis holds that to develop ethnic countryside tourism in Guizhou province, the priority lies in protection. Through scientific design and feasible planning, tourist products unique to each ethnic minority group and suitable to each touristdestination should be developed. To be specific, ethnic ecological museums should be built, tourist products catering for market tastes should be developed, traditional ethnic culture and its related products should be digged and exploited deeper, appropriate marketing and operating mode should be explored, and the ecological environment should be conserved and protected and so on and so forth.
