Tourism English Teaching Study In Secondary Vocational School Based On ESP Needs Analysis

Since English used widely in tourism industry, many schools, such as universities, colleges, high vocational colleges and secondary vocational schools, have set up the tourism English to meet the demand. However, how to meet the demand is still a problem which is worth researching.Needs analysis is the center of ESP (English for Specific Purpose), it can be implicate into the teaching of tourism English which is one of the important branches of ESP. The investigation included one hundred and thirteen tourism students in secondary vocational school, three tourism graduates, three tourism English teachers and four employers by questionnaires and interviews which was based on the models for needs analysis of Hutchinson, water, Dudley-Evans and St. John. The results shows that, compared with the teaching of general English, the teaching of tourism English is relatively weak in its teaching textbook, teaching contents, teaching arrangement, teaching methodology, test approaches and teaching staff. According to the problems the author gave some suggestions to overcome the problems.At the end of the thesis,the author also pointed out the limitations of the investigation and the research due to the limited samples, such as students, teachers and employers who were involved in this research, and hoped implicate the suggestions , which were given in this research, into the following tourism English teaching process, and continue to do this research, in order to promote the development of tourism English teaching.
