A Research On Personal Knowledge Management System

On the background of global informatization and networking, the acquisition of information and knowledge is no longer a main problem for individuals. For individuals, how to manage the obtained information and knowledge and transform them to one's own knowledge and ability became a main problem. However the existing personal knowledge management systems and tools cannot reflect the features of personal knowledge system, and have unsolved problem on knowledge representation and knowledge organization.In order to solve the above problem, this paper present personal knowledge network model and use this model to design and develop a personal knowledge management system.The main research work in this paper is as follows:(1) According to the features of personal knowledge management, this paper has proposed personal knowledge network model based on the theory of knowledge systems engineering, knowledge network and cognitive psychology. Personal knowledge network model helps people to establish his/her personal knowledge system. This model sees knowledge element of personal knowledge system as knowledge knot in knowledge network, and marks the other knowledge elements in the properties of knowledge element to establish knowledge relations. This model has established a index system from micro and macro levels to measure personal knowledge network.(2) This paper has designed and developed a PKMS based on the personal knowledge network model which includes knowledge retrieval, knowledge accumulation, knowledge organization and knowledge sharing. The knowledge accumulation subsystem is the basic part of this system, and it encourages users to accumulate knowledge in objective dimension, subjective dimension and relational dimension. The knowledge organization subsystem is the core part of this system. It organizes the accumulated knowledge elements and show visualization results in several aspects of macro, micro, transverse and vertical dimensions. The knowledge organization subsystem provides interactive visualizing interfaces which allow users to change views between different dimensions. In this way, users can learn the relationship of different knowledge and form a comprehensive understanding. (3) This paper has analyzed the application of the PKMS. Firstly shows the service condition of a student and a teacher. And also shows an example of usage of a knowledge worker in enterprise. The application shows that this PKMS can satisfy different needs of different people.The research result shows that personal knowledge system is a complicated multi-dimensions and multi-levels dynamic system. Personal knowledge network model can reflect this features well. PKMS used personal knowledge network model can help individuals in different domains manage their personal knowledge. It helps user to accumulate, understand and internalize their person knowledge. Users can enhance system thinking and system institution and create their own knowledge structure to enhance knowledge management ability.
