With customer?s demand being more and more personalized and diversified, the production is transformed into a model featured with varieties and small amount per batch. It has become the center of the factory owner?s focus to respond promptly to the customer?s request. Timing has become a new major competitive advantage. However the uncertainty of the production timing has been increased due to the uncertainty of various internal and external factors, which resulted in the inefficient use of time.This essay will discuss the competitive advantage of timing under the concept of lean production with a thorough analysis of the cost of time and the cycle of time. At the same time, this essay defines time entropy based on the entropy theory, and concludes with a set of time-based evaluation system to evaluate and measure the uncertainty of the production system. Meanwhile, this essay summarized the effect on time from the production process flow, logistics flow, capital flow and information flow.On the basis of the evaluation of the uncertainty in the production system with the entropy theory, this essay analyzes how lean production improves the uncertainty in product system. We start from lean production itself and study factors that improve the uncertainty in production including"one flow", pulling in-time production and stable production. We then analyze the effect on uncertainty in production system from lean concept of the whole life process including lean design, lean distribution and lean logistics. Finally we analyze how to improve the uncertainty in production system based on postponement manufacturing of lean production.
