Recently, many scholars and researchers have done a lot of studies on how toevaluate research input-output efficiency of universities and colleges scientificallyand logically. But there is less literature on research input-output efficiencyevaluating with regard to certain decipline in some university or college. However,all deciplines have their own characteristics, so we should differentiate thecharacteristics of different objects, work out different matters and items of the indexsystem, and apply different measures to evaluate different deciplines input-outputefficiency of different universities in classification.As the important base of innovative researches and transformating, applicatingof advanced, new productions nationally, the researches of 985 engineering collegesmanifest distinctly engineering characters, and there are many great advantages inresearch of 985 engineering colleges compared with the ordinary engineeringcolleges. The ability of researching, and the amount and level of the researchoutputs of 985 engineering colleges, indicate the progress of advanced science andculture, and they also have a great effect on the advance of the power of science inour country. Accordingly, the scientifical, logical and exact evaluation of researchinput-output efficiency of 985 engineering colleges not only makes for thestandardization of the research management in the universities, but also have animportant meaning of making the best function of science and technologicalinnovating of high-level engineering colleges and enhancing the ability of scienceand technological innovating of our country.This paper studies on the evaluation of research input-output efficiency of 985engineering colleges, keeping to the basical principles that different objects shouldbe evaluated in classification. Combining with the characters and the greatadvantages in research of 985 engineering colleges, this paper established an indexsystem that aimed at evaluating research input-output efficiency of 985 engineeringcolleges. By using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), this paper devotes to get theestimation of the research input-output efficiency of the selected 985 engineeringcolleges more scientifically and logically. Based on the analysis of the results, thispaper puts forward some proposals to the questions for the non-DEA effectiveoutput shortfall and input redundancy in the research of 985 engineering colleges.
