In recent years, Chinese automobile output and consumption are increasing dramatically and corresponding automobile logistics has become more and more important in our economic growth. As a result of severe competition between manufacturers, logistics is considered the best approach to develop automobile industry potential and to increase enterprise competitive power. From the perspective of development trend, domestic and foreign, the Third-Party Logistics (3PL) is sure to take a leading position in the near future. Yet literatures concerning automobile logistics are mainly confined in a certain part of the automobile supply chain, and a research on the entire supply chain operation is in great demand. Thus, this paper takes a general view of the entire automobile supply chain and focuses on logistic operations based on 3PL.The author starts at a thorough analysis of the automobile logistics present condition. Major problems in Chinese automobile logistics include: distributed market control, separated business management and a lack of overall logistics operation. To overcome such shortcomings, the present research lays foundations on 3PL operation theories and advanced automobile supply chain logistics operation patterns borrowed from successful enterprises abroad. A new Automobile Supply Chain Logistics Operation Model based on 3PL has been proposed in theory to guide automobile industry practice. The model is further analyzed from aspects of logistics operation, information sharing and coordinated control. Then, integrated with logistics operation element factors and information function researches, an Automobile Logistics Supply Chain Integrated Framework is constructed in application to support the above theoretical model.Within the realm of this integrated framework, several key techniques are under discussion: the author looks into application techniques of Component Part Just-In-Time Purchase and Supply, Ex-works Parts Consolidation and Milk-run Transportation, Supervised Dispatching etc., employs a mathematical model to generate the appropriate selection of Finished Automobile Logistics Operation Network, and then analyses Information Sharing, together with a Coordinated Control Mechanism, in details. Finally, an empirical study in some 3PL company is carried out to testify feasibility of the model proposed in this paper with a focus on Logistics Operations of both component parts and Finished Automobiles.
