With the rapid development of our country's economy, China's retailing industry is experiencing rapid development and changes, urbanism accelerates. Great change of retail have taken place in Shanghai: new type retail formats strive for space furiously, retail format are diversified, community retail make great progress. On the other hand, retail enterprises expand quickly, especially foreign retail corporation competitive stress. Under this circumstance, scientific retail format distribution exerts them.This paper takes Shanghai metropolis as an example and makes a positive research on the spatial structure of retail format in Shanghai's urban center. It analyzes retail formats spatial structure of center urban in Shanghai, and discover spatial layout of different format and spatial structure mechanism, Based on recent instance, find some problem, and then toward these problems, provide some advices. In addition, predict future format spatial development trend. At last, based on format property, plan and choose reasonable retail space. These discussions are in favor of understanding rules and evolvement of metropolis urban retail format spatial structure.There are six chapters in this paper.Chapter1 looks back retail location relative research and theories, then introduces the relative concepts and meaning of retail format, narrate relative research backgrounds and purposes and research methods and techniques.Chapter2 summarizes overseas retail formats spatial evolvement and spatial distribution characteristic.Chapter3 firstly summarizes Shanghai retail formats spatial evolvement and spatial distribution characteristic. Chapter 4 analyzes spatial influence factors on format development and formation mechanisms of format. Retail influence factors include people live level and consume level and urban rent and so on. Formation mechanism emphasizes on different drive powers("urban plan drive and retail corporation drive and shopping behavior drive" ),which shape the retail spatial structure.Chapter5 predict future spatial trend of Shanghai center urban retail format based on format evolvement rules. It supposes that large-scale supermarket would garrison in new great residence zone, which mainly lie between inner-circle and out-circle. Shopping mall and modern department become more and more centrifugal, which emphasize on particularly traffic transfer segments. Compared with foreign retail formats spatial distribution, it analyzes retail formats layout problems, provide some countermeasure.Chapter6 theoretically explains the factors and mechanism of the location of the retail formats nodes and forecast the trend again.
