Study On Industrial Production And Progress Of Vigorous Seed Tubers Of Potato, Sweet Potato And Konjac In Enshi

Regarding to the problems addressed in large-scale production of potato, sweet potato and conjac in Wuling mountainous regions, lack of virus-free seed tubers (roots) and less use of sloppy lands suitable for growing crops were the main causes resulted in the restrictions for reformation of agricultural systems and less benefits for growing crops.Taking advantage of variety and techniques of the Southern Potato Research Centre and the Enshi Academy of Agricultural Sciences with aims of promoting the conversion of research achievements into apparent productivity, we integrated extension of new varieties and production of virus-free seed tubers (roots) into the activities of enterprises. The system made good use of resources of ecology and technology to reduce the production cost of the seeds and formed a chain of sustainable development of healthy and high quality seeds, which contributed to finance increase, more household income and rapid development of the institution.Seeds are key measures of agriculture. The present project not only met the needs for the development in potato, sweet potato and conjac industry, but also addressed the issues of economic development of mountainous areas; not only fitted the requirement in margin land use, but also the urgent needs for large scale production of bio-materials; and not only promoted the conversion of research achievements of an institution into productivity, but also an efficient measure to construct socialism new countryside. Therefore, complementation of the project will have significant impact in economics, ecology and society.
