The development of multi-national corporations is the outcome of economic globalization.There is still a rising trend of the investment in multi-national corporations in China.As an important resource for corporations, human resources plays an even more crucial role in the operation of MNCs. MNCs have been attaching great importance to human resources for a long time. Although there is only a small number of expatriates in local MNCs, expatriates are so important that sometimes they cannot be replaced by local candidates. More and more MNCs are starting to employ people from various origins, namely, they employ third country candidates such as people from Asia Pacific region in addition to home country assignees. On the other hand, because of its obvious effect on the attraction, inspiring, and retention of employee, compensation and benefit management is a well recognized important part of human resource management. Thus, the thesis will study compensation and benefit management in MNCs based on expatriates.The first chapter of the thesis is an introduction, which includes a brief discussion about the background, significance, and research method of the thesis. In the second part of this thesis, the writer will lay a solid foundation in theory preparation for the whole thesis with a discussion for FDI theory, human resource management theory together with compensation and benefit theory. The third part conducts some definition, and meanwhile this part discusses the composition and characteristics of the expatriates, and analyzes the expatriate C&B management strategy for MNCs in China. There are detailed discussion about compensation and benefit management in chapter 4 and 5, which is followed by an expatriate C&B management model. Following theory part, the sixth chapter talks about the expatriate compensation and benefit study the writer has conducted for MNCs in China. The study results include general information for expatriate management in China, the practice of expatriate C&B management in the market, and the management trend for expatriates. In the last chapter of the thesis, the writer further discuss the prevalent management practice and development trend with the help of demonstration results, and make expectation on the trend for expatriate management.
