In the process of the modern economic development, economic globalization and regional economic cooperation have become the two major trends。In terms of both geo- economics and economic mechanism, all integral parts of world economy are gradually formed into a whole body. Geo-economic cooperation and development between Xinjiang and the five countries of Central Asia, is not only a must for economical globalization, but also an inevitable choice for the emerging China opening to the world. With the implementation of the strategy for the development of China's west, Xinjiang, which used to be the closed remote autonomous region has become the forefront facing central Asian nations. Under the guidance of China's policies to reform and open up, a completely new, all-dimensional opening pattern is formed in Xinjiang. However, since only a few areas of cooperation with central Asia countries are involved, and styles and scales of cooperation are limited, Xinjiang is in an awkward position only as a transportation channel in the trades between China and central Asia countries. In the author's opinion, there is great potential in the economical cooperation between Xinjiang and these countries. In this thesis, some economic issues on Xinjiang's development are discussed. The theme is to explore ways on how to utilize Xinjiang's geographic, historic and cultural advantages combined with the capital resources and technology from eastern China to promote the cooperation between Xinjiang and central Asia countries, and finally reach the goal of"win-win"scenario in building up the cooperation relationship. The thesis is comprised with four parts. In the first part, the necessity of geo-economics cooperation between Xinjiang and the five countries of Central Asia is discussed. The international and domestic political, economical and diplomatic background on this cooperation is introduced. Furthermore, the strategic importance of this cooperation on the development of Xinjiang is analyzed. The current status of the economic cooperation mentioned above is described in the second part. The author analyzed the fields, ways and scales of geo-economic cooperation between Xinjiang and five central Asia nations– Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kirghizia. In the third part the pros and cons of geo-economic cooperation between Xinjiang and the five countries are analyzed. Based on the advantages such as Xinjiang's geographic position, historical and humanity background, economic and trade cooperation status, similarity of resource distribution, complimentary of industrial structure, superior operational mechanism of Shanghai Cooperative Organization, etc, the favorable conditions on cooperation are analyzed. At the same time, the disadvantages and problems are also analyzed concerning the unfavorable factors of local area interest, system and rules effectiveness, basic infrastructure inefficiency, as well as the imbalance on the dependence of bi-lateral trade. In the fourth part the measures of geo-economic cooperation between Xinjiang and the five countries of Central Asia are analyzed and proposed. Considering Xinjiang's economical status, it is necessary to rely on eastern China's economic resources to develop the economic cooperation; and the principal of"going out"and"introducing in"should be carried out. Finally, some strategies and measures, as well as framework of cooperation in the key fields of cooperation and development are suggested including petroleum and transportation industry, border trade and supply chain business.
