Spatial Effects And The Convergence Of Regional Economic Growth In China

The convergence of regional economic growth has been a hot topic among the regional economy educational world since 1980's. Because regional economy is an open system, such factors as product trade, factor mobility,knowledge and technology's spillover make the systems associate with each other complicated, having decided regional economy is not isolated existence but contact mutually, the economic growth of one region depends on not only its own productive factors devotion, but also growth conditions of other regions. This paper intends to set out from the geography spatial effects, based on convergence model of spatial econometrics theories for foundation, contrast with convergence model of the new classical economic growth, analyze the convergence of regional economic growth trend and the cause of formation in China.This paper studys the convergence of regional economic growth in China from 1952 to 2004, draws the following conclusions.1. From 1952 to 2004, the Chinese regional economic growth took place absoluteβconvergence in provincial territory spatial level. From 1990 to 2004, the Chinese regional economic growth has not took place absoluteβconvergence in civic territory spatial level.2. From 1952 to 2004, under the geography spatial effects function, the regional economic growth in provincial territory spatial level passed marked examination. This shows that Chinese regional economic growth appeared obvious conditionalβconvergence trend, affected by the geography spatial effects in provincial territory spatial level. From 1990 to 2004, under the geography spatial effects function, the Chinese regional economic growth only displayed weak conditionalβconvergence in the civic spatial level.3. From 1952 to 1978, What do positive functions to Chinese provincial regional economic growth convergence are the expenses devotion of the culture , education , science and sanitation, entire social fixed asset investment rate, saving rat, domestic trade, market density, industrial structure, government consumptive expenditure,geographical factors and government preferential policies etc. But the labor force, labor force sex constitution, infrastructure, international trade, system change, urbanized level and transportation with influences unstable for the convergence of regional economic growth in provincial territory spatial level.Moreover from 1978 to 2004, What do positive functions of Chinese provincial regional economic growth convergence are the expenses devotion of the culture, education, science and sanitation, entire social fixed asset investment rate, infrastructure, saving rat, international property, countryside housing situation, system change, industrial structure, transportation, geographical factors and government preferential policies etc. But the employee employment of the regional quantity, labor force sex constitution, natural growth rate of population, municipal housing situation, domestic trade, urbanized level, market density and government consumptive expenditure with influences unstable for the convergence of regional economic growth in provincial territory spatial level.
