Identification And Shiftiness Study Of The Production System Bottleneck Based On Theory Of Constraints

Methods of Bottleneck Management presented by TOC have been appliedsuccessfully in some enterprises all over the world, and there are more enterprises arelooking forward to vanquish competitors with the help of TOC. However, from thegoal put forward by TOC itself, it is obviously that the Bottleneck Managementsystem of TOC is not so completed yet. This thesis, based on TOC, studies theidentification of production system's bottleneck from an economic view andrelationships between some production factors and the bottleneck shiftiness, aiming tobuild up a more completed system of Bottleneck Management. Its main contents aresummarized as follows.(1) The lack of Bottleneck Management system of TOC is demonstrated byanalyzing the goal of enterprises put forward by TOC itself and the problemof bottleneck shiftiness. A notion of studying production system's bottleneckfrom an economic view and relationships between some production factorsand the bottleneck shiftiness is presented.(2) The basic theory and technology of TOC is introduced. Definitions ofproduction bottleneck and their identification methods are anatomized. Thebottleneck shiftiness problem is also described clearly. And the profitfunction of enterprises is established under the condition of Jackson networkmodel.(3) The relationship of capacity collocation with location of production bottleneck is studied with the goal of obtaining maximum profit. Therelationship of requirement plan with location of production bottleneck isstudied later, also under the same goal.(4) The notion of economic bottleneck of production system is presented, andthe identification method of economic bottleneck is defined by comparingevery workstation's flow cost reduction size made by additional unit capacity.The application area of economic bottleneck is analyzed in detail.(5) Relationships between five main production factors and bottleneck shiftinessare studied through simulation and econometrics, some solutions to solveshiftiness problem are put forward at last.
