As the biggest municipality directly under the jurisdiction of the Central Government,Chongqing is the economy centre city in southwest part and upstream Yangtze River, avery important industry base, traffic hinge and commerce port in China. As the openingpolicy is advanced from coast line to inner land, and the development in west part ofChina is actualized, the superiority in Chongqing is more evident, and prominence isgiven to its status in economy distribution of China. However, so many problems existin urban system in Chongqing: urbanization should be enhanced, but big city and bigcountry co-exist, representative duality economy structure exist; The cities scale rankstructure is irrational, short of the big city with the population of 5-10 million; urbandensity drop off from west to east part; the location of town is not rational,strap-distribution is evident. How to plan the town scale, arrange urban spatialstructure, choose urban industry, adjust town function is the problem to be settled. This research takes the urban system structure as a whole and concert system inaccordance with the line of "theory--actualities--development trend--inner drive--quantitative analysis --evolvement simulation --practice homing", and its steps willfollow the principles of "from the easy to the difficult and complicated" and "from theoutside to the inside". This thesis research Chongqing urban system structure evolvedadvancement from the angle of the trends, the region, the spatial, seeks the plan and thepolitics how to optimize Chongqing urban system spatial structure. Specifically hasused below the research technique:(1) The thesis uses many kinds of analysis methodsuch as the sustainable development theory, the spatial structure theory, the economicalposition discusses, the economical development grows extremely the theory and soon.(2) Quantitative analysis emphasize principle of exact data, useful method, advanced measure, use the tendency pre- measurement, the multi- factors synthesisappraisal method, is divided the geometry theory and so on to concentrate toChongqing cities system structure research.(3) The research method takes Chongqingas a whole, some towns as representative, to collect direct and indirect data, and payattention to combination of comparison and posteriori method, to study the scalesystem, function system and spatial system of Chongqing. The thesis includes seven chapters. The first chapter clarify the research meaning, research method, introducs the present study situation at home and abroad. The secondchapter introduces theory reference of urban system. The third chapter summarizes thereality of urban system of Chongqing from three structure characteristics of urbansystem, discovered that the urban hierarchy structures of Chongqing are too low, and the scales of small towns are small, urban system is out of balance; as to the functionalstructure. Although the location quotients of the three economic area of Chongqing arediscrepant, functions of cities and towns are converging; because of the limitation oflandform and the rapid development of transport network, its space structure presents"west dense, eastern sparse" pattern. At the final part of this chapter analyzes thereason of the status quo of urban system of Chongqing. The fourth chapter, from fourangles of economic developing level, technological innovation system, policy, areaenvironment, make research on urban system evolvement drive analysis and basictrend. The fifth chapter provides optimized scheme of three structures in the urbansystem. The sixth chapter makes research on system scale, function, spatial structuremutual relation. The seventh chapter, summarized the problem in this paper and thedirection of following research.
