The research of urban group has always been emphasized since the concept ofurban group was put forward by J. Gottmann for the first time. Urban group hasbecome the important form of dividing the work for regions. Most of thedemonstration researches about urban group are about Yangtse River Delta orZhujiang River Delta in our country. The research on the middle region undevelopedregion in our country is usually about city system building of some province whilelack of system analysis about regional correspondency in depth. The developmentstatus of mid-China urban groups is studied in this paper used the theory of urbangroup, city economics and regional economics. The paper consists of 6 parts:PartⅠis the background and the significance.PartⅡis the basic theories. Theories related urban group are introducedaccording to the demand of research.PartⅢis introduction of status quo about mid-China and urban groups ofmid-China.PartⅣis cost-benefit status about urban groups of mid-China. Cost-benefitindex is used. Clustering analysis of six urban groups of mid-China is studied basedon their scores of foundational cost-benefit index, living cost-benefit index, spatialcost-benefit index and intellectual cost-benefit index.PartⅤis study ofbalance between urban groups of mid-China and the region.The relation between economy lever and city course about mid-China urban groups aswell as mid-China region is studied according to the applying of Ciannelli-model.Economy level and urbanization rate of the six urban groups are compared, andprimacy degree of six central cities are also discussed.PartⅥis the conclusions and discusses. Following the summarizing the wholedissertation, the discussing problems have been advanced.
