From 1990s, the implementation of ERP systems become one of the mostimportant areas in information technology. But the result isn't satisfying not only inChina, but also in western countries. The primary purpose of this study is to provide away to evaluate enterprises' implementation readiness of ERP by analysis of readinessand the research of software selection. A new model is proposed to serve as a guide tosuccessful ERP implementation in China. The main contribution and work of thispaper are as follows:1. A new model is put forward. After review of evaluation methods, a novelmodel to assess enterprises' implementation readiness of ERP (IRM-ERP) is proposed.Based on our model framework, we divide IRM-ERP into 4 stages in terms ofreadiness—Project Planning, Analysis and Design, Continuous optimization andReadiness. We divide the evaluation index system into 4 categories—Business ProcessReengineering, Management Level, Investment and Technical Level, ImplementationAbilities, each of which has 4-6 indicator systems to determine the stage it belongs to.We also defined the KPI of the evaluation index system, which are the evaluationcriterion and the direction of the enterprise which is not in the readiness stage.2. A survey instrument is developed to measure the index system and the weights.Data are collected from 61 experts.3. The entropy-fuzzy synthetic evaluation model is improved. Because theapproach was misused in other area previously, we improve the approach andintroduce the right process.4. A new ERP software selection approach is proposed. According to the methodof entropy-fuzzy synthetic evaluation model and the evaluation index system we proposed, a new ERP software selection approach is proposed, which proved that themodel gives practicable result.5. Empirical application of the IRM-ERP. We analyzed two cases of effective andineffective ERP implementation, A and B, both group corporations, respectively. Andwe investigated the experiences and lessons in their ERP implementation. Using ourproposed model of RIM-ERP, we got the readiness of their ERP implementation, anddemonstrated the applicability of the model.
