The Research On Growth Of Technological Capability Based On Conversion Of Tacit Knowledge

Technology transfer is an effective method for developing country companies to promote technology capability. The developing experience of Japan, South Korea and Singapore et al has proven that. Currently, our nation is during the period of economic fast developing. So technology transfer is becoming the most effective method to enhance our nation's technology capability. But because developed countries only treat our nation as manufacturing base, and don't export the real core technology. So depending on cheap labor and extensive market we only get many peripheral technologies. Although temporally companies in our nation get economic value, in the long run they will be the subsidiaries of companies in developed countries. So how to develop from technology dependence to technology independence has already been the key point of technology strategy of our nation's country, and also is the key to fulfill technology breakout in order to catch up with developed country.This paper first finds out what has been researched on tacit knowledge transfer and technological capability by other scholars, based on which this paper defines our own knowledge transfer and technological capability. Before analyzing, this paper first gives two real cases which including Dalian Sanyo Compressor Co. Ltd. and FAW Car Co. Ltd., which are both done by investigation. Then this paper finds out the conversion process of tacit knowledge, which including sourcing knowledge from other palace outside companies and knowledge transfer inside companies. In the next part, this paper figures out tacit knowledge is the nature of technological capability. After analyzing the elements of technological capability, this paper argues that the growth of technological capability is based on learning from outside of the company and the conversion of tacit knowledge during learning process. The capability of Individual in company is growing during the learning process, and the organization makes all the elements growing cooperate with each other. At last, this paper finds out a specific way for technologically less developed companies, which including productive capability stage, partial innovation capability stage and full-scale innovation capability stage.
