| China is a big agriculture country. As cash crops, vegetables go through market faster than food crops, and enjoy a very important position in China's agriculture productions. Our vegetable industry has made great progress since the economic reform, now China has become a country with the largest aggregate yields of vegetables the world over, and the total quantity breakthrough 550 million tons in 2004, meanwhile, the vegetable export is expanded year by year. But the proportion of China's participation in international vegetable trade is not so large. If considering the part exporting to Hang Kong, the proportion is even smaller than that. This didn't match our status as a great vegetable producer, so the importance of studying vegetable international competitiveness has become very clearer. This paper analyzes the present conditions and moving tendency of the international competitiveness of china's vegetable industry by a frame consists of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis on the basis of the industry international competitive theory. Then subdivide the vegetable industry into 19 categories according to《China Customer Year Book》and《The Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System》(HS1992), and evaluate the international competitiveness of each category, and then conflate the 19 categories into 3 types of fresh or chilled vegetables,primary processed vegetables and further processed vegetables to study their international competitiveness. It is found that there are competitive advantages for the general vegetables in China, but it is not eminent. And such types as fresh or chilled vegetables, further processed vegetables didn't display strong competitive advantage while some provisionally preserved and primary processed vegetables show relatively strong competitive advantages. |
