With the global economic integration and supply chain management, it takes the fourth generation port theory. In China, there have been some analysis and research about this new port theory, but there is no really clear definition and integrated theory for the fourth generation port. After a lot research and analysis, the fourth generation port in this thesis is defined as waterside green centre of supply chain logistics. Being the fourth generation port, it must have fourth characteristics: It's a green port on the basis of the third generation port, through integrated supply chain and ports alliance. When analyzing ports'logistics supply chain,studying on world ports alliance and further discussing green port, the forth generation port theory is enriched.River navigation is one of most important strategic resource for our country. After analysis the state of river ports, many problems and challenges are existed. According to success of foreign river ports like Duisburg Port and New Orleans Ports and Domestic River ports like Zhongshan Ports, it's confirmed the roles of river ports in new port theory.The strategic analysis is deeply important step in port development process. The port strategy is made more clearly with Porter Five-Forces model,SWOT to get what the port competence is. Except some traditional strategy as Port-vicinity Industry,the target of throughput,policies and infrastructure construction, the fourth generation port should focus more on ports alliance,supply chain improvement and sustainable development. Not only have the necessities been deeply proven, but also it mentions the main problems the strategy facing including the solutions. There are profound guide meaning in port planning.At last, the strategy analysis theory is applied in Zhangjiagang Port as a case. With speciality and GDP forecast, the port throughput is quantitatively analyzed as well as qualitative analysis basing on three strategic models. Then,we get strategic orientation of Zhangjiagang Port in addition to the short-term and long-term targets. Otherwise, it gets pertinent suggestion and idiographic methods.
