"Suggestions on how to implement the 11th Five-Year Plan to Deepen Reform in Power System" issued by the State Development and Reform Commission, has promoted rapid and further practice of reform in power enterprises in China and strong competition in its own field. To be more competitive, every power enterprise is attaching more and more importance to the training development. However, the effect is far from what is expected. In this paper, an attempt is made, based on the features of power enterprises and training itself, to find out major factors that affect training and hence approaches to upgrade training in power enterprises.First, theoretical study. On the basis of a summary of previous studies, an exposition is made on former studies on the training in enterprises and its appraisals. Definitions are given of the concept and connotation of power enterprises, whose characteristics are also analysed. Then comes a conclusion of the possible factors that may affect training in power enterprises.Second, interviews and case studies. Through interviews, an investigation is conducted on what may affect staff training in power enterprises, in the hope of concluding some possible factors. Case studies are used to make comparisons between those with good and those with poor training effect so that majot factors that affect staff training can be found out. Both interviews and case studies are a good support to questionnaire designing.Third, questionnaire design and survey. On the basis of theories, interviews and case studies, a questionnaire is designed, from which data are gained and analysed with the SPSS software, leading to a discussion of possible factors that affect training in power enterprises.Last, conclusion and prospect. The summary of possible factors and the approaches to upgrade training can offer guidance for the training in power enterprises, which may help enterprises develop an overall awareness of the problems that exist in staff training and provide basis for better training effect in power enterprises.
