A Study On Analysis And Evaluation Approaches Of The Competitiveness For Chinese Power Generation Enterprises

On implementing the National Power System Reform, competition has been introduced in the power generation enterprises;hence the competitiveness of generation enterprises becomes their general concern and attracts the attention from the regulators, administrations, and even the social public. Electric power industry is the national fundamental industry;however, there are hardly any prior theoretical studies on the competitiveness of generation enterprises. Therefore, the present study enriches the theories of generation enterprise competitiveness, and in practice, provides the analysis and evaluation methodology, which is beneficial in the efficiency enhancement in electric industry from the headstream. These make the theoretical and practical significance of the present study.Taking the competitiveness of the generation enterprises as the study object, this dissertation mainly discusses the electric generation industry competitiveness, generation enterprise competitiveness, generation enterprise core competence and the evaluation of generation enterprise competitiveness, etc. The main research and conclusions are as follows:1. The present study established the analysis model for industrial competitiveness, and with the application of the model, conducted the concrete analysis on the Chinese national electric power installed capacity and thermo-power generation industry, which is the main body of our power production. This dissertation developed Michael Porter's Five Forces Model, and constructed the Three-dimensional Model in industrial analysis, which are Industrial Chain dimension, Market dimension and Time dimension, and elaborated the analysis with the application of the Model from seven aspects, which are suppliers bargaining ability, buyers bargaining ability, present competitive situation in electric industry, competitiveness of substitutes, future expansion on power generation market, potential intruder and policy influences, and established the analysis index system. The analysis on the competitiveness of thermo-power industry suggested that its Market dimension competitiveness is being strengthened, whereas the Industrial Chain competitiveness declines sharply. The Time dimension competitiveness is being maintained within recent two years, but going to decline in the long run. Influence from polices is not optimistic either. All in all, the conclusion can be drawn as the general competitiveness in thermo-power industry is deteriorating..2. As for analysis on generation enterprise competitiveness, this dissertation distinguishedgeneration enterprise competitiveness into actual competitiveness in direct expression of production and operation and potential competitiveness in deeper layers. The analysis on generation enterprise competitiveness was applied with the help of Value Chain Model. This dissertation analyzed influences both from system foundation, business resources, human resources, technological management and other facilitating functions, and from internal logistics, production and operation, sales, service and other basic activities. Practical approaches in enhancing the competitiveness in generation enterprises are proposed.3. As for analysis on core competence of generation enterprises it is clear that core competence is the source of sustainable competitive advantage of generation enterprises. In Chapter six, the dissertation analyzed the characteristics of core competence in generation enterprises and established the Step Model of core competence in generation enterprises, and put forward the Dynamic Management Process of core competence in generation enterprises.4. Evaluation Model of competitiveness in generation enterprises and evaluation of competitiveness of listed companies in generation industry: Competitiveness evaluation is the important part of competitive analysis. On the basis of competitiveness analysis, this dissertation constructed a fairly comprehensive and practical evaluation model of competitiveness in generation enterprises. Taking into consideration potential competitiveness, actual competitiveness and achievements competitiveness, the evaluation model has set up a series of evaluation indexes, and conducted the competitiveness evaluation and sequence arrangement by taking the domestic listed generation enterprises as samples, with the application of a host of methods as the level analysis method, factor analysis method and information entropy method, etc.
