With entering the 21st century, Chinese petroleum industry has been facing economic globalization, market integration, dynamic competition, ever-changing technological development and new environment after getting access to WTO. Chinese market has become a very competitive place of international capital, as a result, Chinese enterprises will definitely confront more intensive international competition, even in domestic market. In order to be alive and develop in such a competitive environment, Chinese petroleum enterprises must construct their own competitive advantage and enhance their core competence, this is probably the only way out, and a choice being of strategic significance for Chinese petroleum enterprises currently and in future. Thus, how to analyze the influence factors on Chinese petroleum enterprises'core competence objectively and effectively, make the enterprises clearly recognize their own advantage and disadvantage, guide those enterprises catch the opportunity, formulate correct competitive strategy and establish correct promotion strategy, will be of great importance not only for the development of Chinese petroleum enterprises, but also for the deepening of Chinese petroleum industry's system reform.Firstly, this dissertation summarizes the development course of enterprise's core competence theory and the achievements on the connotation, characteristic and component parts of enterprise's core competence researched by domestic and foreign scholars, and points out the defects existed in present studies. Secondly, the dissertation carries out SWOT analysis in terms of the current situations of Chinese petroleum enterprises, and constructs internal value-chain and external value-chain of Chinese petroleum enterprises from the viewpoint of business process, operational pattern and the relations with external environment, and analyzes the formation of core competence of Chinese petroleum enterprises. Thirdly, in light of petroleum enterprises'value-chain, formation process of core competence and selection criteria, the dissertation analyzes the factors affecting petroleum enterprises'core competence, and carries out principal component analysis from enterprise's scale strength, technology ability, management ability and development ability respectively. Finally, the dissertation finds out the main influence factors on core competence according to the comprehensive evaluation result of principal component analysis.By through the study mentioned above, the dissertation figures out some critical problems existed in the competition of Chinese petroleum enterprises and their roots, and comes up with relevant countermeasures for promoting the core competence of Chinese petroleum enterprises from scale strength, technology ability, management ability and development ability in terms of the main influence factors of petroleum enterprises'core competence.
