Development in a strange land by helping the emigrants out of poverty is an effective way to resolve production, improve living conditions and eliminate poverty-stricken population in the extremely bad ecological environment. Through the practice of down-the–mountain–and-off-the-poverty, the government of Wuyi County has succeeded to help more than 40,000 emigrants from high mountainous areas break away from poverty and embark on the broad road of prosperity, among which the Jiulongshan Village, located in the mountains 1,041 meters above sea level, is no other than one of the benefited villages. After moving down the mountain, all the problems in the past such as difficulties in traveling, children's schooling, youth's marriage, illness treatment, use of water and power, postal communications and economic development, have totally been resolved now.Based on the field investigation, the author takes the theoretical methods of cultural anthropology and the other interdisciplinary approaches to make a research and investigation on the social and cultural changes and adaptation of Jiulongshan village after down the mountain. The dissertation focuses on the study of the village's changes and adaptation from aspects of production, life and their ideas after down the mountain. There must be a transition period for them to adapt to the current life and production, but after it, they will be able to fully adapt to the downhill life. Along with the increase in contacts with the outside world, the villagers have also undergone a fundamental change in people's ideas and minds. Now the villagers have full sense of happiness, and show their satisfaction degree with the downhill life one time higher than the life spent in the mountain. Thus, the improvement of the living conditions and quality of life can greatly enhance their sense of happiness. The practice of down-the-mountain-and-off-the-poverty is an"exchange transfusion"way of helping the poor. Different from the Government's past passive way of"transfusion"and"hematopoiesis", the people of Wuyi county discard the original"blood"to maintain the"lifeblood"for their own survival, and make use of the fresh"blood"provided by Government to create their new life. The happy life of the villagers in Jiulongshan village is an epitome of 345 ones out of poverty down the mountain in Wuyi county, which embodies their great achievements in the off- poverty work.
