China has become the largest production and consumption country of vegetable around the world. Vegetable has been the second largest planting in China. Especially after entering the WTO, the production of vegetable in China displayed certain superiority in the international market.After analyzing the situation of vegetable industry in China, this paper summarizes some traits as following: new varieties and technologies are widely applied; the location of vegetable industry is more rational; the security system has been established; moreover it brings a new point in process and export. And then, this paper points out some obvious problems existing, such as: lack of technology; the quality of production is unstable; the structure of vegetable industry is not rational; the system of social service is imperfect; low level of industrialization, moreover the mechanism of interest coordinate has not been established yet; the circulation system of vegetable is not perfect; there are some misunderstandings in the process of production.Vegetable industry is the dominant planting industry in Wuhan where there are six kinds of dominant vegetables(Bean, Buckwheathead, Cowpea, Lotus root, Hongshan flowering stalk and Jian'gan White). According to the actual survey by the Department of Agricultural in Wuhan, we analyzed the background and situation of the vegetable industry in Wuhan. Within the year of 2005 to 2007, the six vegetable dominant varieties reached the standard. The planting area, the annual output, the anual production value and the input-output ratio increased from 550,000 mu to 650,000 mu, 850,000 to 1170,000, 790,000,000 yuan to 1110,000,000 yuan and 1:2.57 to 1:3.54, respectively. The percentage of the six dominant varieties in the total vegetable industry increased 7.It gained great economic efficiency since the implementation of the industrialization. The input-output ratio of bean and Buckwheat Head has been increased to 1:3.38 and 1:8.32 respectively, and the per-mu yield value has been increased to 2 360 yuan and 2948.4 yuan; moreover, the input-output ratio of Hongshan Flowering Stalk has been increased from 1:2.7 to 1:6.32, and the per-mu yield value also has been increased from 2500 yuan to 3 338 yuan; the input-output ratio of Cowpea has been increased from 1:2.7 to 1:4.22, and the per-mu yield value also has been increased from 1 350 yuan to 1 900 yuan; the input-output ratio of Jian'gan White has been increased from 1:2.33 to 1:3.75, and the per-mu yield value also has been increased from 700 yuan to 1500 yuan; the input-output ratio of Xueli Hong has been increased from 1:2.25 to 1:3.2, and the per-mu yield value also has been increased to 1 600 yuan.According to the successful experiences, the main problems have been pointed out: 1. the structure of vegetable production is illogical; 2. the infrastructure is not perfect and there is lack of technologies; 3. there are many problems in the security of vegetable production; 4. there is lack of skills of storage and process; 5. the circulation system of vegetable is imperfect; 6. the leading enterprises existed are too small, and the co-operation organizations has not been established yet.Finally, this paper puts forward some countermeasures to solve these problems: 1. adjust the location of vegetable production; 2. built more production bases, associate the technologies with production; 3. perfect the quality control system; 4. develop the enterprises for processing and the skills of storage; 5. enhance competitiveness, accelerate export; 6. exert the superiority of geographical, stimulate the circulation of vegetable production; 7. support the leading enterprises, strengthen the brand-building; 8. intensify the organization and leadership, carry out the support policies; 9. establish the information system, develop the investment channels. All the measurements provide a strong and scientific evidences for the development of vegetable industry in Wuhan .
